August 2010: NDM-1
News of the emergence of the NDM-1 has once again highlighted the importance of good hand hygiene and effective cleaning practices in the fight to prevent the spread of infections. Without effective antibiotics or other remedies the only sensible approach is to prevent the infection from spreading in the first place.
Currently the risk is minimal as so few cases have been reported but Diversey's advice is to remain vigilant, choose the right personal hygiene and professional cleaning products and use them properly according to the manufacturer's instructions.
July 2009: H1N1
As of June 11th, WHO has announced a Phase 6 Pandemic Alert concerning the case of Influenza A. Even though the severity of the virus is classified as moderate, the number of deaths which are related to the H1N1 virus are around 230 as of June 20th. The number of cases related to the virus has already exceeded 50,000. As the virus has proved its spread over most continents including Australia and New Zealand, it is regarded as a global pandemic.
