Diversey's Animal Testing Policy

Miniatura Miniatura

Background

Diversey is committed to providing products that are safe for people and the environment, while complying with all applicable regulations. Governmental regulations sometimes require animal testing to ensure the acceptability and safety of the products. Diversey’s official position is that governments should eliminate all animal testing requirements for the type of products we sell and replace with non animal testing.

Our view on animal testing

Diversey does not directly conduct animal testing. However, animal testing data is sometimes required by regulatory authorities. We are concerned about the well-being of animals in the product safety testing process. Therefore we are committed to the reduction, refinement and ultimately, the elimination of animal testing to minimize animal suffering.

Diversey applies strict internal control procedures to ensure that animal testing is only carried out

  • When absolutely required by government authorities
  • When no alternatives are available
  • When internal and external ethical standards are met
  • By external service providers
    • Who are accredited to perform animal testing
    • That are carefully selected to assure they adhere to specific controlled conditions
    • Who minimize the number of animals used and handle them in a humane way
    • Who work in compliance with all applicable governmental standards

Safety Assurance Approach

Diversey demonstrates its commitment to the elimination of animal testing by preferably using product ingredients with a long history of safe use. We also avoid the need for new testing by using existing safety information available from Diversey and our suppliers as much as possible. If further confirmation is needed, we use validated in vitro (non animal) alternatives and next generation risk assessment approaches to assure the safety of the product.

We actively engage with competent authorities to accept our hazard and risk assessment approaches that do not involve new tests on animals.

Our policy

Diversey does not directly conduct animal testing. Diversey will only use tests on living vertebrate animals

1. When testing is done by an external, accredited animal testing laboratory

2. When it is deemed absolutely necessary and no alternatives are possible

3. When it is needed to meet legal requirements

4. After specific approval by the Diversey Animal

Welfare Committee (including Senior Leadership Team member) based on the advice of company risk assessment experts Adherence to this policy is controlled by the Diversey regulatory team as part of the product maintenance process.
